We live in a world where we are told we need more; more growth, more money, more clothes, more stuff…MORE MORE MORE, and if we don’t have more, we aren’t enough or don’t have enough.
This week’s Moxie Affirmation with Debra Trappen reminded me that more isn’t more. More is a drug that that sucks us in and keeps us wanting more. The more we have the more we want.
What happens next is we find ourselves comparing what we have (and who we are) to what everyone else has and that leaves us feeling depleted, insufficient and, well, wanting more.
Here’s what helps me refocus when I get into the rut of wanting more.
Happiness is:
When you stop and appreciate the present moment; breathing in every morsel of goodness it offers.
When you wake up and give thanks for another day.
When you look at your spouse, your kids, and your village of friends and family and smile because you know how much they love you and how much you love them.
When you look in the mirror at the end of the day and know that you did your best, even though your best wasn’t perfect.
When you feel at peace knowing you have everything you need.
This week’s Moxie Affirmation is one to repeat EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. We are enough. We have enough. In fact, we have everything we need.
What strategies do you use to stop the desire for more? I’d love to know. Leave a comment below. Of course, if you enjoyed this post, I’d love it if you’d share it with your world.
