We’re three weeks shy of the anniversary of the coronavirus shut down. Usually, this time of year, we’d be off to visit my parents in Florida for some much-needed Vitamin D.
This year, however, we decided to stay put and take a staycation. As a closet introvert and homebody, the idea of not having to go anywhere or be any place was incredibly appealing.
Escaping my routine allowed me to do some things that I most likely would not have done had I jetted off to warmer weather.
If you’re wondering how a staycation might benefit you, take a look at these five reasons why you may want to consider it:
You can finish that book you started. Back in November, I began Barack Obama’s book, Promised Land. Talk about commitment. It’s over 700 pages and a 27-hour audible listen. I carved out time each day and finally finished it.
You can discover new foods and enjoy old favorites. I find cooking and baking therapeutic. This week I made almond muffins, brownies from scratch, soy-braised short ribs, home-made pizza, English muffin bread, and waffles.
You can exercise whenever you like. I committed that I would exercise every day, and I did! I logged on to Shanti every day and took yoga or inferno hot pilates (Give it a try. I promise you won’t regret it).
You can take walks. We had a bit of snow this week and enjoyed the experience of walking in the quiet stillness after the snowfall. We also discovered a new trail in the woods near our house, which allowed us to explore.
You can play games. We played lots of family games this week, which meant quality family time (or perhaps forced family fun at times).
And here’s a bonus, staycations are good times to work on those home projects you’ve been meaning to do…like replacing two toilets. HA!
What kinds of things do you do on a staycation? I’d love to know. Leave me a comment below.

Plus, here are 7 things that inspired me this week:
Rise up. This video makes me say YES!
This has some great ideas to find a little space in your day.
Padma. A new young musical artist. She writes her own lyrics, composes, mixes, and produces all her songs. The genre of her music is Indie/Pop, and this song is so sweet.
Love this from Rachel Bodie.
This recipe is a staple dinner for us. I use ground turkey and add a little avocado on top. It’s delicious and so healthy.
Everlane sends 100% of the proceeds from these to the ACLU. Can’t wait for mine to arrive.
And then, there’s this.
