A few weeks back, when I was slogging through my radiation treatments, my husband reminded me it’s like a marathon. You’ve got to pace yourself, replenish, and take breaks when you need them.
I like to think about this pandemic in the same way. Here we are, at mile 20. We’ve come so far, and now, having finished heartbreak hill we’ve hit the wall. We want nothing more than to stop, quit, give up.
We cannot. We can practically see the finish line. To stop now would be to throw away all the hard work, the discipline, and the grit it took to get this far.
We must finish. The vaccine is up ahead, but to finish means we must continue to wear our masks, social distance, stay home, and, most importantly, refrain from large gatherings even when that means we cannot be with our friends and families.
It’s hard. I know. In the words of Glennon Doyle, “We can do hard things.” I know we can. We’ve come this far. Don’t give up now.
Stay strong, everyone. 2021 will bring with it lighter, brighter days and the beautiful energy of being together.
P.S. Here are 7 things that inspired me this week.
